Dragons are cool. Imagine an alligator that is ten times its normal size with wings and the ability to spit fire! An alligator alone is frightening enough, but add flight and fire and it becomes truly a thing of awe. Dragons are, of course, the things of myth and legend. They have roots in both European and Chinese cultures. The Chinese see the dragon as a symbol of power. It is, in fact, the highest-ranking animal in the Chinese animal hierarchy. For the Europeans it is more of a creature of fantasy and mayhem. They seem to come and go in the pop culture of America, being featured prominently in films like Reign of Fire and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. And their role in the HBO hit Game of Thrones has thrust them back into the spotlight of American pop culture as of late. I can’t imagine what life would be like with something like that flying overhead. I guess we should just be thankful that they’re about as real as Bigfoot.
